YU YUPHORIA : A Budget smartphone with best-in-class features

Recent venture of Micromax : YU brand, has launched another GOOGLY with the new smartphone at a eye-popping price of  Rs 6999 ($109) named YUPHORIA. The phone is the second offering of the company after YUREKA, which was also a hit in the budget league to stand above many of the other brands.YUREKA was sporting a 5.5-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM and was powered by the Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor, and Cyanogen’s Android-based OS was icing on the cake.

YUPHORIA is a mid ranger device with the distinct features of a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720), 2GB RAM, 16 GB ROM, Dual SIM, 4G LTE support powered by the Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor by Qualcomm. A 8 MP rear centrally placed camera defines the class and the circular ring outside it adds to its good looks, while you will find a 5-megapixel snapper located on the front side of this handset. Though the battery drain has been the past pain of YU brand phones, still the company went with 2,230mAh battery to power the device. To back this up, the company now offers a QUICK-CHARGE 1.0 feature.

Moving with its teasers, A Durable body design covered with a metal frame and booming audio supporting a Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DCA audio enhancement, the device is totally worth a try. Covering all this, we now come up to the price, a price of 6999 for a device with such features, it is clearly a great deal.

So it comes down to my final verdict on it, With a metal frame body and hefty features in such a price range, YUPHORIA is here to win the hearts and YU have a bright future ahead. All will depend on what AFTER SALES service they will give to backup their promises. Well....we will find it out eventually with time.
Catch you guys later.. Adios.

Samsung Flagship 2015 : Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung just launched two of the flagship phones for the 2015, GALAXY S6 and S6 EDGE. Samsung always have been in one of those companies who offer awesome features with the taste of luxury and durability. Samsung has been taking risks with the designs and considering the profit charts of the company, I think they are doing pretty good with this. Galaxy series and Note series have proven to be the successful cards by Samsung which provides numerous features and allows to touch the boundaries of Android experience.

Here is a small walk through of what actually came out from the pockets of the Korean Tech giant in 2015.

The Body - Hardware

Moving ahead of the plastic back cover and a solid tough frame, Samsung now moved to a totally new design with Glass on both front and back panels covering the phone with a solid aluminum frame. A much awaited upgrade for the customers of Samsung which now provides a luxurious look to the device. But moving to a singular design also has its drawbacks, from which non removable battery is one that can hurt many.

Volume rocker and power button are placed at a comfortable area and are easily approachable. Samsung went with almost the same design in the screen part, with 2 capacitive keys with a button in between. But the facelift here is that the iconic button is now a fingerprint scanner and that too with Touch-to-Unlock feature. With the first hands on with the device, I can say that it is pretty fast and way better than the Swipe-to-unlock hardware.
Both devices provides a 5.1-inch Quad HD 2560×1440 Super AMOLED Curved display but a special mention: Curved display of Galaxy S6 Edge….MANN!!! That is one hell of a design!! Using the device with a curved display seems a little uphill, but when you will start using it, it will just fit in your daily routine. The opulence of the screen just gets doubled when Samsung added some of the extra features for the curved display which can make you an Eye-magnet at any of the gathering.

Samsung also gave its attention under the hood, keeping a zippy new Exynos 7420, an octa-core 64 bit Samsung’s own processor with the benchmarks to compete with top processors available. 3 GB of RAM just add a nitro booster to the performance. Though the device lacks an external memory card slot but the 128 GB variant can be a suitable option for people who need more storage.
Talking about the Camera, Now that’s an area where now Samsung earns an applause. High quality pictures with many different customizations even in the low light conditions. The device boasts a 16 MP back camera with OIS (Optical image Stabilization) and a 5 MP front camera with wide angle selfie feature. The pictures comes crispy and minimum noise disturbance.
Battery is also a decent 2550 mAh battery which can last for a day for a normal user.
Wireless charging is not much gained hype in India much but still when it comes as a feature availability…!! Samsung had it done!!
LTE Support, Gorilla Glass 4 screen, and a Heartbeat Sensor adds count to many of the distinct features.

The Soul – Software

The first thing about the software of Samsung that comes in every user is TOUCHWIZ and it HANGS a lot. Now for those who don’t know, Touchwiz is Samsung’s own skin on Android which also includes many of its own software which takes a lot of space and also slows down the device. But I think Samsung has now learnt from the mistakes and has decided to upgrade the software with making it lighter and also removing many of its custom installed software which a regular user might not have ever used.

The new touchwiz is based on android’s latest OS, Lollipop with a new theme engine attached to change the complete layout design of the interface. A very less bloat-ware and a light weight Touchwiz now allows S6 and S6 edge works smoothly without any lag. Surely a thumbs-up on this one Samsung.

Writers Thoughts

Moving with the past image of Samsung, countless features and high quality product, Company has always been one of the favorite of all. You can surely find a Samsung in at least 1 out of every 5 people. This explains the company’s success and strive to deliver. With S6 and S6 Edge, they have now gone high with the standards and luxurious looks. Just the final thing that keeps me from getting my hands onto the device is the PRICE TAG!!
Modifying one of the Spiderman’s dialog: With Great FEATURES comes an extortionate PRICE TAG.

Keeping up with that I think a price of a 32 GB variant of S6: Rs 49,899 ($782) and S6 Edge: Rs 58,999 ($945) is a little heavy for the pockets of a normal earner here. But still if you can afford it, you should buy it!!!

Catch you later!!! ADIOS AMIGOS!!!

Things You Need To Know Before Watching Avengers : Age of Ultron

It's finally here. Avengers 2 is all set to break all the records and repeat the success of Multihero power packed Avengers. Even the Non-geeks are also as enthusiastic about the movie as some Marvel fans are (I am one of them ;-) Deude!! I can't control my emotions :D ) but If you have no idea about Marvel's different phases of Superhero movie production timespan then you could be out of sync at some point of time during the movie.

Yes, It has been a long journey for Marvel till now which will continue till 2019 as it seems from reports. This include Ironman series, THOR series and Captain America series and The Incredible Hulk. So for your better understanding of the movie, Let's take a recap of the Avengers like who is who and what causes what. ;-)

1. IRON MAN

Anthony Stark, the CEO of Stark Industries who is also famous as Tony Stark is the IRONMAN (well, who doesn't know that ;-) thanks to Robert Downy Jr. for living the character on-screen). He's a self-proclaimed eccentric genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist (Remember that scene between Capt America and Stark).

2. Captain America

The first Avenger as people know him is Steve Rogers who was a World War 2 Soldier or say Super Soldier which he became because of a science experiment in which he received "Super Soldier Serum" and thus become the first avenger who had almost human physical perfection with speed, strength, agility and high intelligence. Not to forget his Super awesome Vibranium made Shield. :D

3. Hulk

SMASH!!!! the only signature activity to tell that We have Hulk on the ground. Result of the failure of the same scientific experiment which turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. That green skinned creature's normal stare is enough to scare you, Mind you!!! Basically he is a scientist who changes into Hulk whenever he's angry or his heart beats rapidly (All thanks to Gamma radiation exposure during replicating the Super Soldier Serum experiment).

4. Thor

Better known as God of Thunder, Thor is prince of Asgard (a fictional realm in the Marvel universe) and son of Odin. He has this super capable Hammer Called as  "Mjolnir" which gives him the power to control the weather and also ability to fly. Apart from hammer, he has his own strength, agility and endurance .He's the only member of Avengers who is not an earth-being.

5. Black Widow

Black Widow which is supposed to be an important and badass female character in Avengers 2 has many aliases and also known as "Natasha Romanoff". Before founding Avengers she was a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Though she's not a superhuman like any other Avenger, She's an expert and trained fighter, good conversationist (As we saw in Avengers 1 during interrogating Loki) and yeah, looks amazing as well ;-)

6. Hawkeye and Nick Fury

In Marvel cinamatic universe, Hawkeye is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and founding member of The Avengers. Often called as Clint Barton (his name), He's no actual superpower but has developed his skills to be the world's greatest Marksman which you must have seen in Avengers.

Nick Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who is responsible to create a superhero team (Avengers) to protect the earth from dangerous threats which can not be handled by Earth force.

7. Scarlet Witch and QuickSilver

Scarlet Witch and QuickSilver are siblings and biological children of Magneto (that X-Men guy who controls metal) who later become part of Avengers. She possesses different kind of psionic powers like Telekinesis, Hypnosis and Hex Bolts.

On the other hand, QuickSilver is the owner of Superhuman Speed and can run at extremely high, supersonic speeds. This gives him Superhuman reflexes.

8. Ultron

Woah!!! Here comes the Boss of the Boss battle. In Marvel Comic universe Ultron has a different origin story but in Cinematic Universe, His origin has different treatment and his creator is none other than our very own Tony Stark aka IRONMAN. Stark built him basically as a peacekeeping program after witnessing and tackling Avengers incident.
In short He's an artificial Intelligence robot who is going to get better of Avengers. Apart from his robotic body and genius level intellect, He possesses Superhuman strength, stamina, durability and concussion blasters.

Pheww!!! Enough Said!!! Now why don't we go and enjoy the thrill and awesomeness which this movie is going to deliver. I bet It's gonna be Legen.... wait for it... dary :D So I'm gonna go and book my ticket.

Do let us know in comments what do you think about the movie and who's your favorite character. Do share among your friends who are new to this stuff ;-)

Airtel's CEO clearing misconceptions about Airtel Zero !

Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO of Bharti Airtel, India and South Asia, has made an attempt to clear all misconceptions about Airtel Zero. The question is has he succeeded? Don’t know about clearing out things but he sure has made the public confused.

TOLL FREE CONCEPT
Put in simple terms, he says the concept of toll free voice communication is being tried on data now. We don’t pay for the registered websites but we pay for the rest of the websites the same way we do now.
Innovation?  Creativity?  I call toll free numbers when I have issues I want the service providers to cater. But, online shopping is something I would also do if I am waiting at a bus stop. Does not quite seem analogous.

GETTING ZERO RATING DEALS DONE
As a start up initiator, seems tedious. Once upon a time, all I needed to do was get one Internet connection & services were guaranteed. Now I have to invest extra time & extra money for finalizing deals with ISPs(Internet Service Providers). Gosh !

SCARCITY OF SPECTRUM & TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
With prioritization, there will be seen an image of pseudo traffic management. The scenario of scarcity of spectrum as addressed by TRAI Chairman Rahul Khullar seems to give a notion of a deterioration of quality of service. With Airtel Zero’s notion of increasing the quality, doesn’t it make the situation worse?

DISCRIMINATION OF SERVICE
As a user, seems quite okay to me as long as I have no background knowledge. Now imagine WebsiteX is with Airtel Zero. I buy 2 products from WebsiteX & I don’t even have to pay for data charges. Wao Yea! But the third product I choose to buy from any WebsiteY & the page does not load even if I agree to pay data charges for the same. Hell No!

Is using a few websites for free is actually a bait? Comment down your answers below.

Here is the email’s full text below.
Dear friends,
Over the last few days you may have seen a lot of conversation on our toll-free platform Airtel Zero. It has been painted as a move that violates net neutrality and we have been very concerned at the incorrect information being carried by some quarters in the media as well as in social media. I wanted to take this opportunity to clear the air and reiterate that we are completely committed to net neutrality. Allow us to put forth our stand on this issue.
1. Our vision is to have every Indian on the internet. There are millions of Indians who think that the internet is expensive and don’t know what it can do for them. We believe that every Indian has the right to be on the internet. We know that if we allow them to experience the joys of the internet, they will join the digital revolution.
2. Airtel Zero is a technology platform that connects application providers to their customers for free. The platform allows any content or application provider to enroll on it so that their customers can visit these sites for free. Instead of charging customers we charge the providers who choose to get on to the platform.
3. Our platform is open to all application developers, content providers and internet sites on an equal basis. The same rate card is offered to all these providers on a totally non-discriminatory basis.
4. There is no difference between this and the toll-free voice services such as 1-800. When a company selling an insurance product enrolls into the toll-free voice platform, customers who call the number are not charged but when they call a normal number they are charged. Calls are not blocked or given preferential treatment else our whole business would be jeopardized.
A toll-free voice service helps the business owners engage with their customers. At the same time it provides the customers the benefit of reaching the business for free. Toll-free voice is not a product or a tariff plan – it is merely a technology platform. We are simply taking the same concept of toll-free voice to the world of data. As a result, it is for the application developers and their customers to decide how data charges will be paid for.
If an application developer is on the platform, he pays for the data and his customers don’t. If the developer is not on the platform, the customers pay for the data as they do now. Companies are free to choose whether they want to be on the platform or not. This does not change access to the content in any way whatsoever. Customers are free to choose which website they want to visit – whether it is toll-free or not. If they visit a toll-free site they are not charged for data. If they visit any other site, normal data charges apply.
5. Every website, content or application will always be given the same treatment on our network whether they are on the toll-free platform or not. As a company we do not ever block or provide any differential speeds to any website. We have never done it, and will never do it. We believe our customers are the reason we are in business. As a result, we will always do what is right for our customers.
6. Based on the interest evinced by many small companies, we believe that our platform is especially attractive for them since they will now be able to get their content and applications to their customers at a fraction of the cost of other digital marketing alternatives. Data charges when paid for by companies are almost next to nothing compared to the marketing costs paid by small start-ups to discover apps.
7. There has been a deliberate effort by some quarters to confuse people that we will offer differential speeds or differential access for different sites. This is untrue. After all, we earn revenues from data. If there are more customers who are on the Internet, the better it is for our business. Our revenues are not dependent on which sites they visit because we charge on the basis of consumption of megabytes, not which site they visited.
In sum our platform is a technology platform and is open to all the application developers and their customers. Our platform only provides a choice of how the data that is consumed is paid for by any of the two – the application providers or their customers. Whether any application provider enrolls on the platform or not is entirely his choice. All we have is a technology. We don’t have a product or a tariff plan that we have launched. We simply have a platform. And every application developer and their customer is free to choose in an entirely neutral way what they want to do.
In conclusion, we stand fully committed to net neutrality to ensure the goals of the Prime Minister’s vision of digital India are met. Once again, you are the reason we are in business.
Regards, Gopal Vittal MD & CEO (India and South Asia)

Infinite loop that is our universe

I’ve always been fascinated by the cosmos and the endless shroud of mystery surrounding it. Every time I thought about my life and how infinitesimally small it is compared to the world we live in, I felt this sense of divine euphoria take over me. Growing up I asked the usual questions, what’s the meaning of life, how did the universe begin, why did it begin in the first place, where is it headed, can you travel back in time or forward in time, etc. The list is endless and most of it inspired by Star Trek, Star Wars and my personal favorite Back to the Future. There is very little we know about our universe considering its enormity. Some answers I discovered as I aged through my lifetime like the big bang, the singularity that started it, the beginning of time but others are still far away from my consciousness.

What started as an almost obsessive thinking about the meaning of life led me to formulate some theories of my own. These are of course, heavily inspired by the movie interstellar and the science of Kip Thorne, the leading astrophysicist from Caltech who formulated the equations for the movie. The leading scientists who study the cosmos have concluded that our universe is most probably one of the many universes that are created and destroyed. According to them it’s an endless cycle. The big bang occurs, the universe comes into existence and then eventually gets swallowed by a black hole and becomes a singularity which starts the process again.

Ever since I read the statement about this endless universe cycle, it struck a chord somewhere in my subconscious. Have I not read something like this long ago, after some tribulations, the answer came to me. It was an article about Hindu Mythology. There are three gods in Hindu mythology who rule over all. Brahma the god of creation, Vishnu the supreme god or protector and Shiva the god of destruction.  According to Hindu mythology, the universe is cyclically created and destroyed in 8.64 billion years which according to the mythology is one day in Brahma's life span. Brahma creates the world and at the end of the day, Shiva destroys it and then the process repeats itself.

As I began to process this information, a wave of excitement hit me. I could see this theory forming ahead of me and maybe finally I had some answers of my own. Time is experienced differently at places with super high gravity than in relative places like earth. So in the movie Interstellar, the protagonist who's on a distant planet close to a black hole spends an hour on the planet while on earth seven years have passed. We know this is possible and our scientific principles predict this effect with details. Could it be something similar for god? Does he exist in an nth plane where the time that he experiences in one day is close to 8.64 billion years? What is this nth plane that I stuck in the middle of the sentence? Glad you asked. So we know that there could be multiple dimensions to our universe or multiverse. We as human beings can currently look and feel three dimensions. A tesseract which is a fancy word for hypercube is a 4-D object.  It’s a cube which has four dimensions but we can’t visualize it well because we can only see three dimensions at a time. String theory predicts as many as 11 dimensions to our universe. Some might be infinitesimally small while some expand across our universe.

I’m going to reference Interstellar again here. Towards the end of the movie, the protagonist of the movie Cooper falls into the Black Hole Gargantua and realizes that somehow he has entered into this space where he can see time as a dimension. His memories, his life span are all laid out in front of him. Skipping to the end of the movie, he concludes that human beings advanced to a higher form of civilization where they moved or could experience these other dimensions and it was these humans from the future who somehow helped him to transmit information back to the past to save humanity. It’s a complicated process but I’ll try to explain it as we go along here.

Imagine this is the first cycle of the universe. At a certain point of time, a civilization occurs and eventually it reaches a Utopian era of science. The science is so advanced that these people can move into or feel other dimensions. In this age, three people from this civilization descend into the nth plane. The nth plane extends across the universe and maybe beyond it. Let’s assume that these three people are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. We hear throughout all religions that god is omnipotent. Because the nth dimensions extends across the universe, it would make these three people exists everywhere at the same time. It’s difficult to visualize this since we are used to dealing with three dimensional objects but it’s theoretically possible. In a 2-D world where space bends in on itself you would look like the 2-D image of yourself. You would still exist but your space wouldn't be the same. The concept is similar for an nth dimension plane. I can’t fathom what it would look like though and believe me I've tried.

After these three people descended into the nth plane, since time exists for them different to how it does for us, they can move back and forth into it. So they decided to go to the beginning of time and create a singularity which eventually turns into the big bang and starts the universe. For us time is a linear quantity i.e. t=1 sec, t=2 sec, t=3 sec and so on but in the nth plane, time t=1 and t=n all exist in parallel. I’ve a strong inclination to say all exist at the same time but time in the nth dimension is not what it is in our dimension so I’ll try and refrain from saying that. In the movie interstellar, Cooper realizes that the signals he witnessed on earth were the same ones that he sent back from the future. We are used to cause and effect but this is causation without effect. I’m going to shift into the field of computers here for a second to emphasize my point. In computer science, there is a programming language called C. To turn a C code into an executable that you can click on and something shows up on screen, it requires a software called the compiler. The compiler of C is written in C itself. Herein lies the paradox. How can you compile the first C program if you need to create the compiler using C itself? This process is called bootstrapping. The singularity that started the big bang came into accord because of the end of the universe it started in the first place, aka the universe bootstrapped itself.

Okay so I finally had some answers. I know god exists in the nth dimension, he’s omnipotent and how the universe came into being. What struck me next was why does god indulge in this cycle? What’s he getting out of this entire process of creation and destruction? This question kept me preoccupied for days and then as before it struck me unexpectedly. The answer being so simple “energy”. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be transformed. God indulges in this cycle because the energy from destruction has to be transformed into construction and the process has to repeat itself.

I’m going to round up my hypothesis with another piece of the puzzle. I kept thinking about how Cooper in interstellar from the future made contact with his daughter in the past. He couldn’t move big objects and with considerable strength was able to move the second hand of a wrist watch. We keep hearing almost universally that god works in mysterious ways. Could this be the reason? Maybe the only way for him to contact us from the nth dimension is through influences and smaller things that combined together lead us to believe in his existence and his workings.

It’s disappointing in a way that in my lifetime science would not have progressed enough to give us all the answers we need. The future seems like an exciting place where we would have discovered interstellar travel, time travel, hyper speeds and the meaning of life but as of now, I am going to content myself by my own theory. I don’t consider myself a religious person but I do believe in one true god. He appears to everyone in a way that we perceive him and hence differently to everyone. Different cultures, religions and people perceive him in the way they want to. If I take the word of Stephen Hawking, god isn’t required for the universe but to imagine life without it would mean that life has no meaning and it’s just random probabilities and nothing more. That is a depressing thought so I’ll stick to my theory for now and maybe one day I can convince Stephen Hawking otherwise.

The Kite Runner

I am an ardent reader and I need to keep on reading for my mind to work smoothly. I like reading fiction mostly. Oh well because they are delicious food for my mind :D

I recently read, The Kite Runner  by Khaled Hosseini .

It managed to be  a number one New York Times bestseller for over two years and has been adapted in a movie with the same name. There is a thing about Hosseini's writing, they remain with you for a longer time than usual. They are heart touching and pull every string in your heart to make it sing. You may even cry at times while reading the story.

Moving back to review:

It is basically about friendship between two boys , relationship of father-son and how the feeling of guilt can change everything.

It is a great, heart breaking, devastating story that touches all the emotions of friendship, remorse, loyalty and gives an insight of the miserable life of Afghans at post-Taliban arrival.
A story of betrayal and redemption. Oh! it has so all colors of emotion.

The best bit about this novel is the message behind the story, the good wins over the evil, the evil in our head; the hope, the act of redemption!
I would suggest this book to everyone who likes fiction. A must read!!

Here are a few Quotes from the novel which I liked the most:
“There is a way to be good again...”  - That is what I seek. The hope!!

“For you, a thousand times over”   -   Oh the affection with which Hassan says these big words...

“I'm so afraid. Because I'm so profoundly happy. Happiness like this is frightening...They only let you this happy if they're preparing to take something from you.”    - It has to be a woman :D

“It's a funny thing... but people mostly have it backward. They think they live by what they want. But really, what guides them is what they're afraid of. What they don't want.”    - And so we think about those things, we complain the most about!

“A man's heart is a wretched, wretched thing. It isn't like a mother's womb. It won't bleed. It won't stretch to make room for you.”   - How I wish it was untrue.

World in Pixels

I read this somewhere once:
"Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them"      -Elliot Erwitt

Truly said!
I never got an opportunity to own a nice camera and get introduced to photography. But I tell you, the world looks much more beautiful in those still images. Now as I have a decent camera in my mobile, I am starting to explore the beauty around me.

Look at these pictures and explore the infinite variety of perception in your mind.

1) This is the road nearby my home. It has different shades in every season and this one is from December winters!

The Road Most Travelled
Look at those dead leaves, they still look so beautiful.

2) This tree fell in a storm. I miss it though :'(

Shades of Dusk

P.S.: Please write comments/feedback as I am a newbie to photography and blogging.
